Brief Summary:

Disability and Health Data System was launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in March 2012 to assist in understanding and monitoring the health of people with disabilities.  Disability and Health Data System is an interactive, web-based disability surveillance tool which allows users to obtain customized disability and health data.

Disability and Health Data System presents 2004 to 2010 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data on approximately 80 demographics and health-related behaviors (i.e., indicators)  stratified by disability status.  In addition, it also contains 49 indicators stratified by psychological distress and data on disability-associated health care expenditures.  The data can be displayed through interactive maps or customizable data tables.

In December 2012, Disability and Health Data System was updated to include State Profiles.  State Profiles provide data on multiple indicators for each individual state all in one place.  Each profile shows data for people with disabilities, people without disabilities, and the disparity between the two groups.  There are two types of profiles:  (1) overview profiles which display data on a variety of indicators – for example Health Risks and Behaviors Overview, and (2) topic-specific profiles which display data for indicators on a particular topic – for example Tobacco Use.

Plans for updates to Disability and Health Data System in 2013 include:  the addition of 2011 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data; improved indicator names; a new Resources section; and updated Help content.
