Brief Summary:
The National Outbreak Reporting System (NORS) is a web-based interface implemented in 2009 for reporting of waterborne, foodborne, and enteric outbreaks associated with any mode of transmission by state and territorial public health agencies to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Recently, CDC has focused on developing capacity to automate electronic data transmission to NORS. CDC is piloting a system called NORSDirect in partnership with seven states prior to launching the system for national use. States in the pilot program can upload outbreak report data from their existing databases into NORSDirect via the Public Health Information Network Messaging System (PHINMS) or directly within NORS.
