Brianna Lyons , Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, New Orleans, LA

BACKGROUND:   In Louisiana, a project focused on building competencies and skills among chronic disease epidemiology staff in evaluating effectiveness of policy change, community engagement and sustainability of community-based programs for the state health department’s CDC Community Transformation Grant.

METHODS:  This mentorship focused on establishing effective evaluations around community programs and activities related to healthy eating and active living. Mentee focused on learning how to design and implement evaluations assessing the effectiveness of policy change, community engagement, and overall potential for programs to maintain effective, long-term success outside of state activity.

RESULTS:   The findings from this capacity building experience with the Applied Chronic Disease Epidemiology Mentoring program will be shared during the poster presentation.

CONCLUSIONS: Participating in a project focused competency building program has enabled us to achieve our objectives.
