BACKGROUND:  During this panel session we will hear from James Daniel, Public Health Coordinator/ Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT; Arthur Davidson, Member of the Health IT Policy Committee and Director, Public Health Informatics and Epidemiology and Preparedness Denver Public Health Department; Walter Suarez Co-Chair of The Privacy & Security Standards Workgroup under the HIT Standards Committee and Executive Director, Health IT Strategy and Policy at Kaiser Permanente; and Jason McNamara Technical Director for Health IT at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Panelist will comment on their perspectives in representing public health in their areas, updates on Meaningful Use Stage 2, insights into Stage 3 and engage the audience in thinking through how public health can more effectively utilize and leverage electronic health record technologies in the Meaningful Use era.
