Biographical Sketch: Cristin Larder earned a B.S. in Psychology and an M.S. in Epidemiology from Michigan State University. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of South Carolina, also in Epidemiology, with a specialization in reproductive and perinatal health. Her areas of professional interest are community level effects on behaviors during the perinatal period, specifically breastfeeding initiation and duration, as well as infant safe sleep practices.
Ms. Larder has served as the Michigan PRAMS Epidemiologist and Coordinator at the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) since April 5, 2010. During her time at MDCH, she has worked to streamline routine aspects of the PRAMS data reporting process, in order to increase internal capacity for data analysis and dissemination. Examples include automating SAS code for the PRAMS annual report, creating standard templates for quarterly newsletters, and building a MS Access database to track data users for dissemination of PRAMS results. These measures have allowed Cristin to spend time strengthen her analytic skills through training courses and workshops in the following areas: Social Epidemiology, Scientific Writing, Multilevel Analysis, and ArcGIS data mapping. Additionally, Cristin has mentored three Maternal Child Health (MCH) interns for the PRAMS project, who have further helped increase capacity by communicating with external MCH partners.
