Biographical Sketch:
Jay C. Butler, MD is Senior Director for Community Health Services and Medical Director of Infection Control and Employee Health at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in Anchorage. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Medical School, has completed clinical training at Vanderbilt and Emory Universities, and is board certified in infectious diseases, internal medical, and pediatrics. He is an infectious diseases consultant at Alaska Native Medical Center and provides care to patients in the hepatitis clinic. Prior to joining the Consortium in April 2010, he was Director of the H1N1 Vaccine Task Force at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, and he was Chief Medical Officer of Alaska from 2007 to 2009. Earlier assignments have included serving as Alaska State Epidemiologist, 2005-07, Director of CDC’s Arctic Investigations Program, 1998-2005, medical epidemiologist in CDC’s National Center for Infectious Diseases in Atlanta, 1991-98, and an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer assigned to the Wisconsin Division of Health in Madison, 1989-91.
