Biographical Sketch:
LCDR David Schnabel graduated from the Ohio State University, College of Medicine, in 2002. After a transitional year internship and clinical service at the Tripler Army Medical Center as a General Medical Officer, he completed the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) General Preventive Medicine Residency and an MPH degree from the Johns Hopkins University. After residency, LCDR Schnabel directed the Department of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the U.S. Army laboratory in Nairobi, Kenya which included developing surveillance systems for and responding to outbreaks of a diverse array of pathogens like influenza, drug resistant malaria and Rift Valley fever virus. From 2011 – 2013 at the WRAIR, LCDR Schnabel lead the development of the Walter Reed Tanzania Malaria Research Program as the Chief, Department of Field Studies. In 2013, LCDR Schnabel completed an interservice transfer to the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service, and serves the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as their EIS Officer.
