Epi Info7 Pre-Conference Workshop
Sunday, June 22, 2014: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM
211/212 (Nashville Convention Center)

1st Session
This workshop was designed to provide an overview of the data collection features of Epi Info™ 7. Participants will learn how to quickly design data collection forms using Epi InfoTM 7, incorporate data entry rules into forms using check code, and explore various options for collecting data.

Participants will learn how to publish Epi Info forms using Epi Info’s Web Survey. The Epi Info™ 7 Web Survey feature allows the survey designer to collect information from participants over the internet. Survey forms can be published to any properly configured web server hosted by your institution or an outside party. When published, Epi Info™ 7 creates a survey URL or website address. The survey designer can distribute the URL over email, by posting it on a web page, or using other methods. In addition, participants will also learn how to publish forms onto mobile phones and tablets using the Epi Info™ 7 Mobile Companion for Android application. This application allows users to transfer Epi Info™ 7 forms to a mobile device and collect data remotely, in situations where there may be no Internet connectivity. In addition, users can collect longitude and latitude coordinates using a device’s built-in GPS, read/scan bar codes, and embed photos from the device’s camera directly to the survey. The Mobile Companion is compatible with Android tablets and phones running Android version 4.0 and above. This session will include interactive learning opportunities in small groups.

2nd Session
This workshop was designed to provide an overview of the data analysis and visualization features of Epi Info™ 7. Participants will learn some of the basic data management and manipulation features in Visual Dashboard and will be able to generate various statistical analyses, such as frequencies, means, and 2×2 tables. During this session Epi Info™ 7’s Web Analytics and Visualization (EWAV) will be introduced. Being similar to the Visual Dashboard, EWAV brings the Visual Dashboard’s analytical and visualization capability to the web. EWAV has data mining capabilities, capable of analyzing large volumes of data and is designed to work with SQL Server and MySQL and other database formats.

Participants are highly recommended to bring their own laptops running Microsoft Windows (XP or above) with capability to connect to the conference’s wireless internet.
