Two Parts: (1) CSTE Tribal Epidemiology Subcommittee Roundtable Meeting & (2) Tribal Epidemiology: Real-time Communicable Disease Data Sharing

Key Objectives:
(Part 1) Provide an update on tribal epidemiology activities associated with CSTE and develop plans for future activities. (Part 2) To improve communicable disease surveillance and case management by sharing communicable disease data through Utah's NEDSS-based system.

Brief Summary:
(Part 1) Annually the CSTE tribal epidemiology subcommittee holds a roundtable at the CSTE Annual Meeting to provide an update of tribal epidemiology activities and to develop plans for future activities.  (Part 2) In this roundtable, we'll discuss implementation of a data sharing agreement between the Utah Department of Health (UDOH), Southeastern Utah Public Health Department (SEUPHD), and Utah Navajo Health Systems (UNHS) clinics.  Historically, UNHS could not share data directly with UDOH, and shared data with SEUPHD only by telephone and fax. Now, UDOH, SEUPHD, and UNHS share data for case management and communicable disease surveillance electronically, in real time, via Utah’s statewide NEDSS-based system (UT-NEDSS). We’ll share progress toward the intended outcomes of data sharing:improved completeness and timeliness of disease reporting, improved case management and public health practice, and strengthened partnerships. We’ll also discuss lessons learned that can be applied to future data sharing efforts.
