Key Objectives:

  1.  Discuss methods and processes to enhance electronic data capture of reportable conditions using a “portal” system.
  2. Share successes, challenges, and lessons learned in undertaking such a project.
  3. An open forum to collaborate and discuss methods for improvement and data analysis capabilities.

Brief Summary:
Rabies is an endemic disease amongst a variety of animal species in Clark County, Nevada.  A bite from an infected animal requires administration of post-exposure prophylaxis (rPEP).  To enhance and expedite  timely reporting of animal bites from the Clark County animal control agencies who  usually notify  by phone or fax, the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD), Office of Informatics implemented a reporting portal that enables providers and animal control agencies to report animal bites electronically to SNHD, Office of Epidemiology.  The portal captures and stores  animal bite information in a database for efficient retrieval and timely reporting to public health officials.  Attendees of this roundtable will be invited to share their experiences in implementing disease reporting portals and analyzing the collected data using data analysis tools.
