Willows, Boise Centre
Brooke Beaulieu , Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, Atlanta, GA
Daniel Church , Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Boston, MA

Key Objectives:
Among partner organizations and national, state, and local stakeholders:

  1. Discuss the current and projected needs, resources, and barriers for conducting HCV surveillance.
  2. Discuss what should be encompassed in a comprehensive definition for baseline HCV core surveillance.
  3. Discuss potential ways to address identified gaps and improve collaboration and communication among stakeholders, resulting in specific action items that facilitate achieving these goals.

Brief Summary:

In recent years, CSTE has focused more attention on improving surveillance for viral hepatitis in state and local health departments. Through subsequent discussions, it has become evident that comprehensive core surveillance for viral hepatitis is critical to our complete understanding of HCV trends, emerging risk groups, and disease outcomes on both a jurisdictional and national level. The purpose of this special session is to facilitate a conversation among national, state, and local stakeholders in efforts of initiating the development of a standardized and comprehensive definition for core HCV surveillance.
