Key Objectives:
- Highlight key examples of instances in which epidemics of both substance abuse and infectious disease have impacted and/or informed each other.
- Discuss the challenges of conducting both substance abuse and infectious disease surveillance and practice. Sequentially, discuss success stories and strategies of how substance abuse surveillance data may be used to fill in gaps in infectious disease surveillance data and practice, and vice versa.
- Improve collaboration and communication among public health professionals working in infectious disease and substance abuse capacities.
Brief Summary:
This session will be dedicated to discussing emerging issues in infectious disease and substance abuse epidemiology, as well as exploring points of collaboration to leverage data and improve public health response.
