Applied Surveillance of Substance Use Disorders: Lessons from the Field

This workshop brings together researchers and local and state epidemiologists from across the country who have experience conducting surveillance and applying this expertise toward behavioral health surveillance. Surveillance methods and their application to behavioral health will be discussed from the Federal to the local level. Approaches to behavioral health surveillance to include burgeoning issues of opioid analgesics and advances in behavioral health treatment will be presented and discussed in this one day workshop to gain a better understanding of the need for behavioral health surveillance.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Discuss behavioral health surveillance and surveillance indicators

  • Describe syndromic surveillance and other mechanisms of surveillance being conducted in the field

  • Explain advances in behavioral health treatment and its potential impact on communities
