State/local epidemiologists and public health laboratorians work closely together to respond to outbreaks, conduct surveillance and monitor new and emerging infectious diseases, but they often don’t speak the same language. This one day workshop will bring together epidemiologists and public health laboratory professionals to discuss their respective roles in a variety of outbreak situations, identify communication barriers and recommend solutions for increased communication and collaboration. Through interactive exercises and case study reviews, participants will identify gaps and strategies for improved communications. The intended audience includes epidemiology and laboratory leaders, supervisors and managers in a public health agency committed to developing strategies to enhance communications.
